Podium start to the British GT Season Opener for Beechdean AMR

This weekend saw the opening round of the Intelligent Money British GT Championship at the iconic Brands Hatch GP circuit.

The mixed weather over the weekend was the key factor but on a blustery Saturday afternoon, Beechdean AMR’s Andrew Howard and Jonny Adam rolled back the years, in their Aston Martin Vantage GT3, to claim their first Intelligent Money British GT Championship pole position since 2015 at Brands Hatch this weekend. Adam set the fastest time of all, 1m23.76s, to vault his Aston Martin from third to first after Howard initially qualified 0.176s behind the Q1 pace-setter.

Race day bought sun and showers but most importantly crowds, the public were allowed back in the weekend and the circuit was filled the maximum allowed crowd.

With rain falling the cars left the pit lane to form up on the grid, Howard started the race in pole position. The race was started under the safety car but 7 minutes in the safety car pulled in and the first race of the year got underway. On a damp track Howard pulled the top 3 cars away from the rest of the field and as the safety car came out for the second time had settled into second position and setting the fastest lap. A third safety car found Howard trapped behind a GT4 and then he was overtaken by the 3rd place car. The top two cars pulled away whilst Howard fought off another attack but then he closed the gap to the leaders and gapped the cars behind. At the pit stops, He brought the car into the pits in third place.

A superb pit stop by the Beechdean AMR pit crew meant that Adam left the pits in second place and immediately attacked the leader. Over the stint, Adam drove superbly and never looked like losing the second place despite a late charge from the third place car. Adam crossed the line at the end of the race in a superb second position to start the season with a great haul of points towards their championship challenge.
